Uphold Honesty In Tax Declarations
Monrovia, August 14, 2024 – The Commissioner General of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), James Dorbor Jallah, has thanked committed taxpayers and called on members of the business community to maintain sincerity and truthfulness when filing or declaring their goods.
Commissioner General Jallah emphasized that for Liberia to achieve sustainable development, taxpayer honesty is crucial. He noted that integrity in tax declarations will significantly reduce the gap of insincerity and contribute to the growth of domestic revenues.
He further warned that inaccurate or dishonest declarations by taxpayers could result in penalties, which would place a heavy financial burden on them.
Commissioner General Jallah made these remarks during a taxpayer awareness and education seminar organized by LRA Taxpayer Services Division in collaboration with the Concerned Liberia International Business Organization (COLINBO).
The seminar brought together over 200 local Liberian businesses, offering valuable insights on various tax-related topics.
Key discussions included the process of obtaining a Tax Identification Number (TIN), calculating personal income tax, paying business income tax, and ensuring timely payment of real property tax.
In his remarks, COLINBO Board Chairman Fomba Trawally expressed gratitude to the LRA for its efforts in educating and raising awareness among business owners.
He pledged COLINBO’s commitment to collaborate with the LRA to further expand awareness initiatives, not only in Monrovia but across the country.
The LRA’s tax awareness initiative, commonly known as the “Tax Clinic,” provides a unique platform to inform and educate both new and existing business owners on tax filing procedures, payment processes, due dates, and other important aspects of tax compliance.
