LRA Conducts Tax Clinic for European Union Delegation Staff In Liberia

Montserrado, Liberia – August 22, 2024 – The Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) successfully hosted an interactive tax clinic for the European Union (EU) Delegation staff to Liberia on August 21, 2024, aimed at enhancing tax compliance and deepening understanding of tax obligations among key stakeholders.

The tax clinic, a collaborative effort between the LRA’s Government and Not-For-Profit Division and Taxpayer Services Division, provided EU Delegation employees with comprehensive knowledge on essential tax topics. The focus areas included withholding tax, various tax payment mechanisms, and legal guidance on withholding and personal income tax.

Led by Assistant Commissioner for Government and Not-for-Profit Division, Eddie Howe, the LRA experts delivered tailored information addressing the specific needs and concerns of the EU Delegation staff. The interactive session allowed participants to engage directly with LRA professionals, ask questions, and receive personalized advice, particularly on personal income tax deductions.

The EU Delegation head, Madam Nona Deprex, expressed deep appreciation for the LRA’s timely and relevant tax education, highlighting its importance for the Delegation’s operations in Liberia. She praised the LRA’s commitment to fostering a better understanding of Liberia’s tax system, noting that the insights provided were both crucial and applicable to their work.

Reflecting on the successful collaboration, Mr. Howe stated, “We are delighted to have partnered with the EU Delegation for this tax clinic. This collaboration exemplifies our mutual dedication to fostering a tax-compliant culture and creating a supportive environment for business operations in Liberia.”

The LRA continues its commitment to public service by extending an open invitation to other entities, organizations (local and international), and individuals to participate in its free tax clinics and educational services.

These initiatives are designed to simplify tax-related processes, promote voluntary compliance, and empower taxpayers with the knowledge they need to confidently meet their obligations.
